Pharmacological action of
Smecta - antidiarrheal, absorbent.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug is a naturally occurring aluminosilicate, has an adsorbing effect. It stabilizes the gastrointestinal mucosa, forms polyvalent bonds with mucus glycoproteins, and increases its amount, improves cytoprotective properties (in relation to the negative effect of hydrogen ions of hydrochloric acid, bile salts, microorganisms and their toxins). It has selective sorption properties, which are explained by its discoid-crystalline structure, adsorb bacteria and viruses located in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract. In therapeutic doses, does not affect intestinal motility. Diosmectite is radiolucent and does not stain the stool. Aluminum in smectite is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, including with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by symptoms of colitis and colonopathy.

Indications
For adults and children (including infants): acute and chronic diarrhea (allergic, drug-related genesis, violation of diet and quality of food), infectious diarrhea (as part of complex therapy)
symptomatic treatment of heartburn, bloating, abdominal discomfort and other symptoms of dyspepsia accompanying diseases of the digestive tract.

Use during pregnancy and lactation
Smecta is approved for use in pregnant and lactating women. Dosage and dosage adjustments are not required.
Composition
1 sachet of powder for oral suspension contains:
Active ingredient: dioctahedral smectite 3 g
Excipients: flavoring, dextrose monohydrate, sodium saccharin.
Dosage and Administration
Inside.
Acute diarrhea
Children, including infants: up to 1 year old - 2 sachets per day for 3 days, then - 1 sachet per day over 1 year - 4 sachets per day for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day.
Adults: The recommended dosage regimen is 6 sachets per day.
Other indications
Children, including infants: up to 1 year old - 1 sachet per day for 1-2 years - 1-2 sachets per day over 2 years - 2-3 sachets per day.
Adults: 3 sachets per day.
Recommended treatment course for 3–7 days.
With esophagitis, Smecta® should be taken after meals, with other indications between meals.
For children, the contents of the bags are dissolved in a baby bottle (50 ml) and distributed in several doses throughout the day or mixed with some semi-liquid product (porridge, mashed potatoes, compote, baby food). For adults, the contents of the bags are dissolved in 1/2 cup of water, gradually pouring the powder and stirring evenly. The prescribed dose is divided into 3 doses throughout the day.
Side effects of
Rare cases of constipation have been reported in clinical studies. In all cases, this phenomenon was weakly expressed and passed after an individual change in the dosage regimen. In routine practice, in very rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions have been reported, including urticaria, rash, itching, or Quincke's edema.
Drug Interaction
The drug may reduce the rate and degree of absorption of drugs taken at the same time. It is not recommended to take Smekta® at the same time as other drugs.
