Pharmacological action of
Expectorant effect of breast elixir due to the action of its constituent components.
- licorice root extract has some anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties that are associated with the content of glycyrrhizin in the roots, which stimulates the activity of the ciliary epithelium in the trachea and bronchi, and also enhances the secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract
- aniseed oil has an expectorant effect Anethole oil, which promotes reflex stimulation of respiration, increased activity of the ciliary epithelium of the respiratory tract and increased secretion of the mucous membranes of the larynx, trachea, bronchi
- ammonia has an irritating effect, which leads to excitation of the ends of the sensory nerves of the upper respiratory tract and reflex stimulation of the respiratory center.
Indications
As an expectorant in infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by the formation of difficult to separate sputum (including tracheitis, tracheobronchitis, bronchitis).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, bronchial asthma, gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum during exacerbation, pregnancy, lactation.
Caution. Liver diseases, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury, brain diseases.
Special instructions
The breast elixir should not be used simultaneously with antitussive drugs, as this makes it difficult to cough up liquefied sputum.
The drug contains at least 14% ethyl alcohol. The maximum daily dose for adults (160 drops) contains up to 0.7 g of absolute alcohol.
Dosage and Administration
Inside. Adults take 20-40 drops 3-4 times a day, children are prescribed to receive as many drops as the child is.
Before using the drug should be diluted in a small amount of water.
The course of treatment is 7-10 days. An increase in the duration and repeated courses of treatment is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.
Side effects
Allergic reactions possible, diarrhea may occur in some cases.
Drug Interactions
In cases of moderate to severe illness, the drug is prescribed in combination with antibiotics and other drugs.
Overdose of
With prolonged use exceeding the indicated dosages, hypokalemia, increased blood pressure, and the appearance of peripheral edema due to impaired water-salt metabolism are possible.
