Pharmacological action
Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with pronounced anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity, highly soluble, with a quick onset and short duration of action.
Pharmacokinetics.
When instilled into the eye, the drug penetrates into all peri-ocular tissues. It is metabolized mainly at the injection site. Almost does not penetrate into the systemic circulation.
Indications
Treatment of steroid-sensitive non-infectious inflammatory and allergic conditions of the conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the eye of the inflammatory nye processes after eye injuries and surgery.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or to any of the components of the
preparation viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva (superficial keratitis caused by Herpes simplex, measles and chicken pox)
mycobacterial infections of the eye caused by tuber Myc tuber Myc Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium avium
fungal diseases structures of the eye
untreated form of a purulent infection of the eye
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The safety of the drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. With topical application of eye drops, the systemic manifestation is low, so the risk is considered small, but the benefit / risk ratio should be carefully evaluated when prescribed to pregnant women and women who are breast-feeding.
Composition
1 ml contains dexamethasone sodium phosphate in terms of 100% dry matter 1 mg
excipients: boric acid, sodium tetraborate, disodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride, water for injection.
Dosage and administration
It is used in adults and is intended for ophthalmic use only.
In severe or acute conditions, 1-2 drops should be instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 60 minutes. When the condition improves, the frequency of instillations is reduced to 1-2 drops every 2-4 hours. Then the dose is reduced to 1 drop 3-4 times a day.
In chronic diseases, 1-2 drops are instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 3-6 hours or more often until the desired effect is achieved.
In allergic conditions, 1-2 drops every 3-4 hours until the desired effect is achieved.
The duration of treatment is set by the doctor individually, on average, from 2 to 9 days.
Side effects
Violation of the organ of vision: short-term burning sensation, discomfort in the eye area, itching, tingling, hyperemia, lacrimation, local allergic reactions, swelling and itching of the eyelids, visual acuity may decrease, visual field disturbances, increased intraocular pressure, corneal perforation (when thinning), mydriasis, keratitis, ptosis, photophobia, posterior subcapsular cataract formation, glaucoma, glaucoma with damage optic nerve.
In the treatment with glucocorticoids, bacterial, fungal or viral (Herpes simplex) infections of the eyes, blepharitis or conjunctivitis may be associated with inhibition of the body's response to infection.
Drug Interaction
Increased destructive processes in the corneal epithelium may be exacerbated by prolonged use with iodocudidine.
No special studies have been conducted on the interaction of the active substance with other drugs.
There have been reports of active substance interactions following systemic administration. However, after dripping into the eye, systemic absorption of dexamethasone is so low that the risk of any interaction is minimal.
When using other topical ophthalmic drugs as concomitant therapy, the interval should be kept with the drug for 10-15 minutes between use.
overdose
There have been no reports of any severe systemic reactions due to drug overdose.
In case of overdose with local use, rinse the eye (s) with warm water to remove any drug residue.
There is no specific antidote for topical corticosteroids. Treatment is symptomatic.
Storage conditions
Store in a dark place at a temperature of 15 РC to 25 РC. Keep out of the reach of children.
