Gentaprim 100ml
DESCRIPTION
Gentaprim is a complex antibacterial drug in the form of an injection solution for the treatment of cattle with infectious diseases of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts and the genitourinary system, as well as mixed infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the combination of sulfadimethoxin-trimethoprim and gentamicin. Available in the form of a clear solution for injection.
COMPOSITION
Contains in 1 ml as active ingredients 30 mg of gentamicin sulfate (corresponding to 20 mg of the base), 200 mg of sulfadimethoxine and 40 mg of trimethoprim.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Gentamicin has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial action, is active against most gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, including Proteus, Escherichia, Salmonella and Staphylococci. Sulfadimethoxine and trimethoprim, which are part of the drug, exhibit synergistic action, have a pronounced antibacterial effect on a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that cause infectious diseases of animals. Sulfadimethoxine and trimethoprim separately have a bacteriostatic effect, and together they give the drug a bactericidal effect. Cases of resistance of pathogenic microbes to gentaprim are extremely rare.
INDICATIONS
Prescribed to cattle, horses, small ruminants, pigs, dogs and cats for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to gentamicin and the combination of sulfadimethoxin-trimethoprim, including: respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, bronchitis), diarrhea, dysentery , colibacillosis, enteritis, septicemia, metritis and endometritis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, pasteurellosis, mastitis, parotitis, skin infections, actinomycosis, purulent abscesses, complications of viral diseases, salmonellosis, parainfluenza.
DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
Gentaprim is administered to animals intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight every 12 to 24 hours for 3 to 5 days. As directed by a veterinarian, the drug can be used for 7 days or more. In renal failure, it is recommended to reduce the dose of Gentaprim depending on the activity of the kidneys.
SIDE EFFECTS
With proper use and dosage, side effects are usually not observed. In some cases, allergic reactions are noted in the form of erythema and itching at the point of administration of Gentaprim. Intoxication due to drug overdose is almost impossible. If intoxication has occurred, symptomatic treatment is used.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Increased individual sensitivity to drug components. Simultaneous or sequential use of Gentaprim with other oto- and nephrotoxic drugs (streptomycin, kanamycin, neomycin), as well as with diuretics and muscle relaxants is not allowed. Do not administer together with preparations containing para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), which counteracts sulfonamides. With great caution, Gentaprim should be administered to animals with impaired renal function.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 30 days after stopping the administration of the drug. The meat of animals that were forcedly killed before the expiration of the specified period can be used for feeding fur-bearing animals or for the production of meat and bone meal. Milk obtained from animals during the period of application of Gentaprim and before the expiration of 4 days after the last administration of the drug should not be used for food purposes. Such milk after heat treatment is used for animal feeding.
