Transparent, colorless to yellowish, slightly viscous solution.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Laxative. Reduces the absorption of electrolytes and water, enhances intestinal motility.
The active form of the drug, formed by hydrolysis under the influence of intestinal microorganisms, directly excites the nervous structures of the intestinal wall, as a result of which the advancement of intestinal contents is accelerated. The effect occurs within 10-12 hours after ingestion.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not undergo hepatic-intestinal circulation.

Indications for use

Atonic constipation. Stool regulation (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures). Preparation for surgical operations, instrumental and X-ray examinations.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate or other ingredients of the drug, intestinal obstruction, strangulated hernia, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity, peritonitis, abdominal pain of unknown origin, severe dehydration, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, metrorrhagia, cystitis, spastic constipation, children under 4 years, pregnancy (I trimester). With care - lactation period.

Method of administration and dosage

Inside, before bedtime.

Side effects

Diarrhea, abdominal pain, dehydration, imbalance in water and electrolyte balance, weakness, convulsions, decreased blood pressure.

Overdose

In addition, with chronic overdose may develop ischemia of the mucous membrane of the colon, secondary hyperaldosteronism, urolithiasis, renal tubular damage.
Treatment
Gastric lavage, correction of violations of the water-electrolyte balance, antispasmodics.

Interaction with other medicinal products

Glucocorticosteroids, diuretics increase the risk of developing electrolyte disorders. Broad-spectrum antibiotics reduce the laxative effect.

Should not be used daily without medical supervision for more than 10 days. Children should be prescribed Guttalax only on the recommendation of a doctor.

Release form

Drops 7.5 mg / 1 ml in vials of 15 or 30 ml. The bottle is sealed with a dropper stopper and a screw cap, together with the instructions for use, placed in a cardboard box.
