Meditin 0.1% 10ml
DESCRIPTION
Meditin 0.1% is a drug for sedation and analgesia in dogs and cats. Dosage form: injection solution. In appearance, the drug is a colorless transparent liquid.
COMPOSITION
Meditin 0.1% for cats and dogs contains 1 ml of medetomidine hydrochloride as an active ingredient - 1.0 mg, as well as auxiliary substances: sodium chloride - 9.0 mg, benzyl alcohol - 9.0 mg and water for injection up to 1 ml.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Meditin belongs to the group of ОІ 2-agonists. Medetomidine, the active ingredient of Meditin, belongs to stimulants of ОІ2-adrenergic receptors, the mechanism of action of which is to inhibit the transmission of nerve impulses due to competition with norepinephrine. It causes depression of the central nervous system and an increase in the pain threshold. The action of medetomidine is dose dependent: small doses have moderate sedation without analgesia, while large doses cause significant sedation and analgesia. The drug has a faster effect when administered intravenously, slower - when administered intramuscularly and subcutaneously. After intramuscular administration, the maximum concentration of medetomidine in the blood is reached after 15-30 minutes. Medetomidine is rapidly distributed in the body. Serum protein binding is 85-90%. Medetomidine is oxidized in the liver, a small part is methylated in the kidneys. Most of the drug's metabolites are excreted in the urine. The half-life is 1-2 hours.
Meditin, according to the degree of impact on the body, belongs to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007), in recommended doses it is well tolerated by animals, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic properties.
INDICATIONS
Meditin is administered to dogs and cats for sedation and analgesia during surgical operations and various clinical trials; it is recommended to use the drug before injection and / or inhalation anesthesia.
APPLICATION
Meditin is administered parenterally: to dogs and cats - intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously.
If necessary, the drug can be re-administered 10-15 minutes after the first injection. To achieve sedative and analgesic effects in dogs, the drug is used at a dose of 0.1-0.8 ml / 10 kg of body weight, for cats, Meditin 0.1% is used at a dose of 0.01-0.15 ml / kg of body weight. Doses of the drug vary depending on the desired effect, individual characteristics and breed of animal. Small breed dogs require a higher dose of Meditin 0.1% than large dogs.
Kind of animal Dose of medetomidine, mcg / kg The amount of the drug Effect
Dogs (Meditin 0.1%) 10-30 0.1-0.3 ml / 10kg Weak sedation
30-80 0.3-0.8 ml / 10kg Moderate to deep sedation and analgesia
10-20 0.1-0.2 ml / 10kg Premedication
Cats (Meditin 0.1%) 50-100 0.25-0.50 ml / 5kg Moderate sedation
100-150 0.25-0.50 ml / 5kg Deep sedation
10-30 0.05-0.15 ml / 5kg Premedication
Meditin has a moderate anesthetic effect, so it is necessary to adjust the doses of anesthetics administered to animals that were previously injected with Meditin.
Meditin can be administered in combination with ketamine or butorphanol. Meditin should not be used in conjunction with sympathomimetic amines, or with a combination of sulfonamides with trimethoprim. With the parallel use of drugs that cause depression of the central nervous system, it is possible to potentiate the inhibitory effect of Meditin, in which case the dosage should be adjusted.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Meditin is not intended for use in productive animals.
The drug is not used for pregnant and lactating animals, as well as those in a state of shock, exhausted or weakened. It is forbidden to use the drug for animals with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as for animals with severe cardiovascular diseases or diseases of the respiratory system, with impaired liver or kidney function, damage to the gastrointestinal tract (volvulus of the stomach, entrapment of organs, obstruction of the esophagus), sugar diabetes, with an increase in intraocular pressure.
OVERDOSE
In case of an overdose in an animal, apnea, bradycardia, a drop in blood pressure are possible. In case of an overdose or in cases where the effect of the administered medetomidine poses a threat to the patient's life, an appropriate dose of atipamezole is used if the removal of the sedative and analgesic effect of Meditin is not dangerous for the operated animal. If it is necessary to eliminate bradycardia, while maintaining a sedative effect, it is advisable to use atropine.
SIDE EFFECTS
Side effects: After administration of the drug, vomiting occurs in most cats and in about 10% of dogs. Some cats vomit during the recovery period from sedation. Feeding should be discontinued 12 hours before anesthesia. Animals should be kept warm during and after anesthesia.
In some animals, bradypnea is observed (4 - 6 respiratory movements per minute), the number of heartbeats decreases by about 50% compared to the norm, a decrease in body temperature is possible, which is explained by the mechanism of action of the drug. In rare cases, it is possible to develop bradycardia with atriventricular block (1-2 degrees), extrasystoles, coronospasm and a decrease in cardiac output. Blood pressure initially rises slightly, then returns to normal, or slightly lower. In rare cases, muscle tremors and uncontrolled urination may occur. If the operation is delayed, it is necessary to regularly moisten the cornea to prevent it from drying out. In rare cases, hyperglycemia may develop due to suppression of insulin secretion.
