Pharmacological action of
Local anesthetic in ophthalmic practice. The action begins 30 seconds after instillation and lasts 15 minutes with a single instillation.
Indications
In ophthalmology for conducting short-term diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, requiring quick and short-term anesthesia: including tonometry, tonoscopy, removal of foreign bodies.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy, it is possible if the expected effect when applied exceeds the potential risk to the fetus (adequate and strictly controlled studies in humans have not been conducted).
Caution is advised during lactation (no data are available on penetration into breast milk).
Special instructions
Repeated sequential use of proxymethacaine causes a decrease in the duration of its action, which requires additional instillation. However, in this case, the risk of developing an infection, clouding or perforation of the cornea is high.
It is important to protect the eye from irritating chemicals, foreign bodies, and also not to rub the eye during the entire period of anesthesia. Patients should be warned so that they do not touch the eye until the anesthetic has passed.
The bottle must be closed after each use.
Do not touch the tip of the pipette to the eye.
Composition
1 ml contains proxymethacaine 5 mg
Excipients
benzalkonium chloride, solution equivalent to benzalkonium chloride, glycerol, concentrated hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH, purified water.
Dosage and administration of
When performing tonometry and other procedures of short duration, 1-2 drops are instilled, immediately before the examination. For small surgical procedures (removal of a foreign body or removal of a suture thread), 1-2 drops are instilled every 10-15 minutes (1-3 doses). With prolonged anesthesia (with cataract removal) - 1-2 drops every 5-10 minutes (3-5 doses). After surgical manipulation, it is necessary to cover the eye with a bandage, as the blinking reflex is temporarily eliminated.
Side effects
After instillation into the eyes, a transient burning sensation and redness are very rare: severe allergic reactions (diffuse epithelial keratitis, epithelial necrosis, diffuse edema).
Storage conditions
Store in a dark place at a temperature of 2 to 8 РC.
