Viferon ointment 40000ME, 12 g

For the treatment of herpes infections (Herpes simplex type 1 and 2) of the skin and mucous membranes of various localization.

As part of the complex therapy of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections in children aged 1 year and older.

Viferon ointment is applied in a thin layer to the lesions 3-4 times a day, the duration of treatment is 5-7 days.

It is recommended to start treatment immediately when the first signs of lesions of the skin and mucous membranes appear (itching, burning, redness).

When treating recurrent herpes, it is advisable to start treatment in the prodromal period or at the very beginning of the appearance of signs of relapse.

For the treatment of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections, the ointment is applied with a thin layer on the mucous membrane of the nasal passages 3-4 times a day: for children from 1 year to 2 years 2500 IU (1 pea with a diameter of 0.5 cm) 3 times a day for children from 2 x up to 12 years 2500 IU (1 pea with a diameter of 0.5 cm) 4 times a day for children from 12 to 18 years old 5000 IU (1 pea with a diameter of 1 cm) 4 times a day.

The duration of treatment is 5 days.

Active ingredient: human recombinant interferon alpha-2b - 40,000 IU;

excipients: alpha-tocopherol acetate, anhydrous lanolin, medical petrolatum, peach oil, calcium pantothenate, sodium benzoate, human albumin, sodium acetate trihydrate, sodium chloride, disodium edetate dihydrate, purified water.

• Individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

• Children up to age 1 year.

Pharmacological properties

Immunomodulatory and antiviral drug. Human recombinant interferon alpha-2b has pronounced antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. In the presence of excipients that make up the drug, the specific antiviral activity of human recombinant interferon alpha-2b increases, its immunomodulatory effect is enhanced (stimulation of the phagocytic function of neutrophils in the lesions). When applied topically and locally, the systemic absorption of interferon is low.

Application during pregnancy and during breastfeeding

Since with external and local application, the systemic absorption of interferon is low and the drug has an effect only in the lesion, it is possible to use the drug VIFERON Ointment during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Side effect

In most cases, VIFERON Ointment for external and local use is well tolerated. When applied to the nasal mucosa, side effects (rhinorrhea, sneezing, burning of the nasal mucosa) are weak and transient and disappear on their own after discontinuation of the drug.
