Pharmacological action
Rhinostop is a vasoconstrictor for topical use in ENT practice. Alpha-adrenergic agonist.
When applied to the mucous membranes, it causes vasoconstriction, resulting in reduced local hyperemia and edema. With rhinitis, it facilitates nasal breathing.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, it is practically not absorbed, plasma concentrations are so low that they cannot be determined by modern analytical methods.
Indications
Acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever, otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharynx), preparing the patient for diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
Angle-closure glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, surgical interventions on the meninges (a history of), hypersensitivityto xylometazoline.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, it should be used only after a careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and the fetus, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.
Composition
Active ingredient:
xylometazoline hydrochloride - 0.50 mg
Excipients:
disodium edetate (Trilon B) - 0.50 mg,
sodium chloride - 9.00 mg,
benzalkonium chloride
potassium dihydrogen phosphate - 3.63 mg,
sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate - 7.13 mg,
purified water - up to 1 ml.
Dosage and Administration
Intranasally.
Spraying is done after removing the safety cap from the sprayer.
The nebulizer is injected into the nose and, pressing on its base, spray for 1 second.
For adults and children over 6 years of age (0.1% spray): one injection from a spray into each nasal passage, usually 3-4 injections per day should not be used more than 3 times a day.
For children aged 2 to 6 years (0.05% spray), one injection from the nebulizer into each nasal passage 1 or 2 times a day should not be used more than 3 times a day.
Do not use the drug without a break for more than 3-5 days.
Side effects
With frequent and / or prolonged use: mucosal irritation, burning, tingling, sneezing, dry nasal mucosa, hypersecretion.
Rarely: swelling of the nasal mucosa (more often with prolonged use), palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, sleep disturbances, and visual impairment.
With prolonged use in high doses: depressed.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 РC.
