Pharmacological action
Xymelin is a vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice, alpha-adrenergic agonist. Causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx.
Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis. In therapeutic doses, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs in a few minutes and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
acute respiratory infections with rhinitis (runny nose) symptoms
acute allergic rhinitis
pollinosis
sinusitis
eustachitis
otitis media (to reduce nasal mucosa swelling in patients with nasopharyngeal procedures).
Contraindications
arterial hypertension
tachycardia
severe atherosclerosis
glaucoma
atrophic rhinitis
thyrotoxicosis
surgical intervention for children age
Caution: the drug should be used for diabetes mellitus, functional class III-IV tension angina, prostatic hyperplasia.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, the drug should be used only after a thorough assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and the fetus, exceeding the recommended doses is not allowed.
Special instructions
Do not use for a long time, for example, with chronic rhinitis.
Composition
1 ml. contains:
Active ingredient:
xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg
Excipients:
disodium edetate,
sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate,
sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate,
sodium chloride,
benzalkonium chloride (as a 10% benzalkonium solution),
purified water.
Dosage and administration
Xymelin is administered intranasally, for adults and children over 6 years old - 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 1-3 times a day. Xymelin is used no more than 7 days. Do not use in children under 2 years old without a doctor's prescription.
Side effects
Local reactions: with frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion rarely - swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Systemic reactions: rarely - palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment with prolonged use at high doses - depression.
Drug Interactions
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Overdose
Symptoms: increased side effects.
Treatment: carrying out symptomatic therapy.
Storage conditions
Keep out of the reach and sight of children at temperatures not exceeding 25 РC.
